Dena-kay Martin is an Associate with Marks, O’Neill, O’Brien, Doherty & Kelly. She is admitted to practice in New York and the U.S. Tax Court.

Dena-kay received her Bachelor of Arts in English and Communication with accreditation in Journalism from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She graduated cum laude as a recipient of The Buffalo News Journalism Merit Scholarship. She then attended Fordham University School of Law.

During law school, Dena-kay interned at one of the busiest district attorney’s offices in the country, participated in legal clinics and was honored with the Archibald R. Murray Public Service Award for her clinical service work. After graduating law school, Dena-kay worked as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Sandra L. Townes of the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of New York. She performed extensive legal research and drafted opinions and orders in diverse areas of case and statutory law, including the Civil Rights Act, contract law, and various standards outlined by the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.

Prior to joining Marks O’Neill, Dena-kay honed her skills in various areas of law including prosecution, tax litigation, civil litigation and criminal defense. As an Assistant District Attorney, she worked in the trial zones, the Human Trafficking Unit and the Law Enforcement Accountability Bureau. Dena-kay skillfully managed complex misdemeanor and felony cases from investigation to trial, secured numerous indictments and received numerous distinctions. Dena-kay joined the U.S. Tax Court during her time working as a tax litigator while living on the West Coast. There, she delivered strategic legal counsel to taxpayers engaged in proceedings involving the IRS.

In recent years, Dena-kay has channeled her skill and expertise into the practice area of civil litigation in State and Federal courts, ultimately bringing her to Marks O’Neill where she focuses her practice in the Casualty, Healthcare, Professional Liability, Construction and Transportation practice groups.

Outside of work, Dena-kay enjoys spending time with her pets and loved ones, experiencing the wonders of nature, and engaging in vintage aerobics like Tae-Bo.
