William G. Murphy IV (Bill) is Of Counsel to Marks, O’Neill, O’Brien, Doherty & Kelly. He is admitted to practice law in the States of New York and California as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of New York.

He graduated magna cum laude from The Pennsylvania State University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa during his junior year. He then attended The Temple University School of Law on a full academic scholarship from where he received his Juris Doctor degree cum laude in 2000.

Bill began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney with the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office where he learned how to be a trial attorney and successfully prosecuted hundreds of criminal Defendants.

After leaving the District Attorney’s Office, Bill transitioned into the area of civil litigation, while still maintaining a connection to criminal law in his role as a defense attorney. For most of the last two decades, Bill represented Plaintiffs in civil actions ranging from minor motor vehicle accidents to high value medical malpractice cases and won millions of dollars for his clients.

Since joining Marks O’Neill, he has concentrated his practice on defending cases of general liability, construction, New York Labor Law, medical malpractice and claims under the Public Health Law against residential care facilities. He believes that his many years representing Plaintiffs brings a unique perspective to defending the very cases he once instituted. Bill understands how Plaintiffs’ attorneys think and prepare and the realities of how Plaintiffs’ firms operate. With that understanding, Bill feels that it puts him in an advantageous position to obtain favorable results for his clients.
