Melissa J. Kanbayashi is a Partner with Marks, O’Neill, O’Brien, Doherty & Kelly’s New Jersey office. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York. She is also a member of the Camden County Bar Association.
Melissa graduated from Villanova University in 2000, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then attended Seton Hall University School of Law, graduating in 2003. During law school, she interned at Polo Ralph Lauren in their Labor Counsel Department. There, she gained experience in handling claims regarding, amongst others, New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (NJLAD), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), New Jersey Family Leave Act (NJFLA) and American with Disabilities Act (ADA). She continued practicing in the labor and employment field with a Northern New Jersey firm, working primarily on behalf of municipalities, before moving to the Philadelphia area.
Since joining Marks O’Neill in 2011, Melissa has represented clients in employment and professional liability litigation. She focuses her practice on complex employment matters including claims of discrimination, harassment and retaliation before both State and Federal Courts as well as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and New Jersey Division of Civil Rights. She has special focus in various types of professional liability matters, including claims against attorneys, accountants and insurance brokers. She also has considerable experience in a wide variety of class actions suits.
Melissa is an adjunct professor with Fairleigh Dickinson University, teaching legal research and writing for its paralegal program. Recently, she has been appointed to serve on the District IV Ethics Committee by the Supreme Court of New Jersey.
Melissa enjoys traveling, reading, raising money for a dog rescue organization and spending time with family.
