Mate Jurkovic is an Associate Attorney with Marks, O’Neill, O’Brien, Doherty, & Kelly. He is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania.
Mate graduated from Loyola University of Chicago in 2015, with a bachelor’s degree in international studies. He then went on to graduate from the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Law with a J.D. in 2018. During law school, he participated in the law journal for environmental law and public health, was a researcher for the U.S. Department of State concerning the role of “hybrid courts” in Africa, worked as a teaching assistant, and participated in both the law school’s intramural soccer team and it’s A.C.B.A. soccer team. Additionally, he worked as a certified legal representative through the University of Pittsburgh’s Immigration Law Clinic.
During law school, Mate worked for the Office of General Counsel for the University of Pittsburgh and the City of Pittsburgh’s Department of Law. And he participated in the University of Lucerne’s Fellowship for Human Rights Implementation, located in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Prior to joining Marks O’Neill, Mate worked as an associate attorney for a local Pittsburgh firm that specializes in toxic tort litigation. In this role, he represented clients in various stages of litigation, handling discovery, depositions, motions practice, and reporting to clients. Following this role, he took a position at a regional firm, specializing in immigration matters, in which he served as case manager. Handling all stages of litigation, Mate represented clients before the immigration courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and managed a growing practice before the United States Courts of Appeals (representing clients before the Third, Fifth, Ninth, and Eleventh Circuit Courts).
Since joining Marks O’Neill, Mate focuses his practice on defending clients in a variety of areas including professional liability, construction, vehicle accident, and premises liability cases.
Outside of work, Mate enjoys skiing, golfing, and playing soccer, as well as studying piano, and chasing after his two dogs.
