John L. Overland, Jr. is a Senior Associate with Marks, O’Neill, O’Brien, Doherty & Kelly. He is admitted to practice in New York, Texas and in the United States District Courts of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas.

John graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1983, earning his bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, whereupon John served as a commissioned officer on active duty in the United States Army Reserve.  Upon the completion of his active-duty service, John served in the Fort Worth Police Department for thirteen years, during which he earned many commendations for bravery and excellence, including the Department’s Life Saving Award.  John continued his service while attending Texas Wesleyan School of Law (now Texas A&M School of Law), where he graduated in the top 11% of his class.

Upon graduation and his admission to the Bar, John began his legal career in consumer bankruptcy. Upon moving to New York and his admission to practice John’s practice expanded to such areas as commercial litigation, construction, and real estate. John also served as a vice president and assistant general counsel to JP Morgan Chase, where John managed a nationwide network of outside counsel representing the bank in complex bankruptcy litigation.

Since joining Marks O’Neill, John brings his experience to the Casualty, Healthcare, Professional Liability, Construction and Transportation practice groups.

Outside of work John enjoys spending time with his family, exercising, and reading.
