James M. Skelly is a Partner at Marks, O’Neill, O’Brien, Doherty & Kelly, P.C.
James graduated from the University at Albany cum laude in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He then attended St. John’s University School of Law, graduating in 1988.
In 1991, James joined Fixler & Associates LLP, which merged with Marks, O’Neill in 2004. James has distinguished himself as an exceptional trial lawyer and handled a wide variety of high-exposure cases, compiling an enviable record of defendants’ verdicts for the firm’s clients. He has successfully tried cases throughout New York State. James’ experience includes the defense of medical malpractice cases, labor law claims, catastrophic brain injuries, wrongful death and amputation as a result of automobile accidents, elevator accidents, lead poisoning/toxic tort claims and products liability claims. He also has represented public entities and private corporations in civil rights, harassment, discrimination, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and employment-related matters.
In addition to his duties with the firm, James has experience as a lecturer for the New York State Bar Association and the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. His work includes trial techniques and litigating closed head injuries for the New York Banker Association (NYBA) and New York State Trial Lawyer Association (NYSTLA), respectively.
James resides in Yorktown Heights, New York with his wife, Marianne, and their three daughters. He has been involved with coaching youth sports for over fifteen years.
